FLIBS 2026: the calm way to cover the world's largest in-water boat show

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is large enough to contain several different shows at once: centre consoles and day boats, engines and electronics, brokerage yachts, sailing yachts and superyachts. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 28 October to 1 November. The opportunity is its breadth. The risk is leaving with a blurred impression of everything and a clear view of nothing.

Divide the visit by decision, not by dock. Spend one session on the yacht category that fits your programme, one on systems and running costs, and one on brokerage or new-build conversations. If you are moving up from a smaller boat, reserve time for the practical middle: storage, service access, trailer or delivery arrangements, insurance requirements and the real cost of keeping the boat ready.

The show is particularly good for comparison. Sit at several helm stations in the same weather window. Compare visibility, access to controls, protection from spray and how easily another person can join the watch. On a centre console, inspect the movement from cockpit to bow and the way wet gear is managed. On a larger yacht, ask how a normal day works when only two people are aboard. These observations are more reliable than a specification sheet alone.

Take photographs only after asking permission and write down the model, stock number and the person who showed you around.
